Plan approval, evidence, and a stop decision

Decide whether an AI workflow deserves wider use.

Use this lesson with the “Run an evidence-informed classroom pilot” skill builder. Allow about 60 minutes for reading and practice; provider training is additional.

1. Learn the principle

Start with a learning problem, school review, and a baseline. Specify appropriate access and data use, an accessible alternative, and what would make you continue, revise, or stop.

2. Study a worked example

An AI workflow saves ten minutes drafting but adds twenty minutes checking. Evaluate the total time and quality instead of reporting only the drafting benefit.

3. Practice with your own example

Complete a pilot sheet: objective, approval needed, permitted data, alternative, baseline task, learning measure, total review time, stop condition, review date. Use fictional samples until approval is clear.

Produce: A one-page pilot plan and review rubric.

Review your work: The decision uses learning evidence and review effort, not just engagement or novelty.

4. Check your understanding

Does enjoyment alone establish that the pilot improves learning?

Reveal the explanation after you answer

No. Combine learner feedback with learning evidence, accessibility, and the full review effort.

5. Extend the skill

Ask a colleague to challenge your success criterion and decide what evidence would change your decision.
