Review translated subject vocabulary
Support language access while preserving subject vocabulary.
Use this lesson with the “Build multilingual learning supports” skill builder. Allow about 40 minutes for reading and practice; provider training is additional.
1. Learn the principle
A translation can sound natural while changing the concept. Review technical terms, examples, register, and directions with a proficient speaker who understands the subject.
2. Study a worked example
In a physics worksheet, “work” has a technical meaning. An everyday translation may suggest any effort. Include the definition and an example that preserves the physical concept.
3. Practice with your own example
Create a five-term glossary: original term, definition, proposed translation, example, reviewer correction. Keep the original directions beside the adaptation.
Produce: A reviewed glossary and bilingual directions.
Review your work: Translations preserve the concept, and learners can connect each term to an example.
4. Check your understanding
Is a second AI translation sufficient proof of accuracy?
Reveal the explanation after you answer
No. Compare meanings and obtain a knowledgeable human review; two tools can repeat the same error.
5. Extend the skill
Ask a reviewer to explain the concept back using the translated example and note any mismatch.
