Write and revise a teaching prompt
Turn a vague request into a repeatable teaching workflow.
Use this lesson with the “Build a reusable lesson prompt” skill builder. Allow about 30 minutes for reading and practice; provider training is additional.
1. Learn the principle
A useful prompt names the objective, audience, constraints, source material, and desired output. Review against those requirements before asking for a revision.
2. Study a worked example
Instead of “make a science lesson,” use “Draft a 20-minute grade 6 evaporation activity using cups and water. Include a learning objective, two misconception checks, and an exit ticket. Flag claims I should verify.”
3. Practice with your own example
Use this template: Objective: __. Learners: __. Approved material: __. Constraints: __. Output: __. Review criterion: __. Revise one weak output using the criterion.
Produce: A prompt template plus an annotated before-and-after example.
Review your work: The revised output matches your objective and requires fewer factual or instructional corrections.
4. Check your understanding
What should you change when the draft assumes knowledge learners do not have?
Reveal the explanation after you answer
State the prerequisite knowledge and request an example or scaffold. Check the revised explanation yourself.
5. Extend the skill
Compare two prompt versions against the same rubric and record which changes helped.
